FAQ
Everything you wanted to know about ordering direct — and skipping the apps.
What is NoDash?
+
nodash is a free directory of NYC restaurants that deliver direct — no DoorDash, no Uber Eats, no Grubhub. We list 3,259+ restaurants across all five boroughs with their delivery fees, minimums, and how to order. That's it. No app. No cut. No middleman.
How do I order directly from NYC restaurants?
+
Search for your neighborhood on nodash.co. Every listing shows you exactly how that restaurant wants to be ordered from — phone call, their website, a platform like Toast or Slice, etc. Click the link or dial the number. Takes about 30 seconds. You're done.
What's the cheapest way to get food delivered in NYC?
+
Order direct. Delivery apps stack fees on top of fees — delivery fee, service fee, small order fee, and then a tip prompt that may not even reach the driver. Most restaurants that deliver direct charge a flat fee (or nothing). You'll almost always pay less, and the restaurant gets paid more. Everyone wins except the app.
Do restaurants charge less when you order direct?
+
Often, yes. Some restaurants price their app menus higher to offset the commission they pay. When you order direct, you may get the real menu price — not the "DoorDash tax" version. Even when the price is the same, you skip the service fees that apps tack on at checkout.
How much do delivery apps really cost restaurants?
+
Typically 15–30% of every order, taken off the top — not from profit, from revenue. On a $50 order, a restaurant might net $35 before food costs, labor, or rent. Many restaurants lose money on every app order and use them purely for visibility. When you order direct, the restaurant keeps 100%.
Which NYC restaurants offer direct delivery?
+
More than you'd think. nodash has 3,259+ restaurants across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Search by borough, neighborhood, or cuisine — if they deliver direct, they're on here. And if you know a spot that should be listed, let us know.
Is it safe to order directly from restaurants?
+
Absolutely. Restaurants have been delivering food in New York City since before any of these apps existed. You pay over the phone or at the door — same as always. No stored card data, no app permissions, no tracking. If anything, it's safer than handing your payment info to a VC-backed startup.
How much does DoorDash charge NYC restaurants?
+
DoorDash charges restaurants 15–30% commission per order, depending on their plan. On a $40 order, that's $6–12 taken before the restaurant sees a dime. They also charge the customer a delivery fee, a service fee, and sometimes a "small order fee" on top. The restaurant barely breaks even; the customer pays twice. It's a bad deal for everyone except DoorDash.
Is there a free delivery option in NYC without apps?
+
Yes — many NYC restaurants offer free delivery on direct orders, especially above a certain minimum ($20–$30 is common). Use nodash's free delivery filter to find them. You'll often get free delivery from restaurants that charge $3–6 on DoorDash for the same order.
Can I order pizza delivery in NYC without DoorDash?
+
Absolutely — nodash lists 900+ NYC pizzerias that deliver direct. Most pizza spots already had their own delivery systems long before DoorDash existed. Just search for your neighborhood or browse our pizza delivery page. Slice.com and Toast-powered pizzerias are especially common for direct online orders.
What neighborhoods in NYC have the most direct delivery restaurants?
+
Manhattan (especially Midtown and the Upper West/East Side) and Brooklyn (Williamsburg, Park Slope, Crown Heights) have the densest concentrations. Queens neighborhoods like Flushing, Jackson Heights, and Astoria have incredible variety for direct delivery. Browse by neighborhood on nodash to see exactly what's available near you.
How do I find late night food delivery in NYC without an app?
+
nodash has a Late Night filter — 796 restaurants open past midnight that deliver direct. Most are in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Chinese, pizza, and deli spots tend to have the latest hours. Way better than paying DoorDash surge pricing at 2am.
How accurate is the nodash restaurant data?
+
We verify every listing through web scraping, platform detection, and manual review. We flag uncertain restaurants with an 'Unverified' badge rather than hiding them. Delivery hours, fees, and minimums come from the restaurants themselves or their ordering platforms. Things change — if you spot something wrong, hit the feedback button and we'll fix it.
